Synopsis
Why
me?
It's
a question I've asked myself many times.
Why
did this happen?
Why
now?
Why
do some people seem to have life easier while others face setback after
setback?
Maybe
you've asked yourself those same questions.
If
you have, then this book is for you.
This
isn't a book that claims to have all the answers because the truth is, I don't.
Life doesn't always explain why things happen. Sometimes the answers never
come. But over the years, I've learned that although I can't always control
what happens to me, I can control how I respond to it.
That's
what this book is about.
It's
about changing the question from "Why me?" to "Why not me?"
Through
my own experiences, lessons, mistakes, and victories, I want to challenge the
way you think about life's difficulties. This isn't a book about pretending
everything is okay. It's not about toxic positivity or pretending pain doesn't
exist. It's about learning how to move forward despite the pain.
Throughout
these chapters, I talk about integrity, accountability, creating a plan,
accepting reality, dealing with criticism, moving on from situations you can't
control, and learning how to keep living even when life throws its biggest
challenges at you.
There
have been moments in my life when I questioned everything.
Growing
up, there were times when I wondered why life seemed harder for my family than
it did for other people. As I got older, I experienced relationship breakdowns,
financial loss, false accusations, public criticism, and one of the biggest
health battles of my life when I was clinically dead for ten minutes after
suffering a catastrophic pulmonary embolism.
At
one point, 85% of my body was filled with blood clots. I spent three days in a
coma and woke up unable to feel my body. Even today, doctors still don't know
exactly why it happened or whether it could happen again.
For
a long time, I could have focused on everything I'd lost.
Instead,
I chose to focus on what I still had.
That
decision changed my life.
This
book isn't about feeling sorry for yourself, and it's not about feeling sorry
for me either.
It's
about recognising that every single one of us will experience struggles.
Some
will be caused by our own decisions.
Some
will be caused by other people.
Some
won't seem fair at all.
But
regardless of where those struggles come from, we still have a choice about
what happens next.
We'll
talk about taking an honest look in the mirror and asking ourselves difficult
questions.
We'll
talk about accepting responsibility where responsibility belongs.
We'll
create practical plans for moving forward instead of remaining stuck.
We'll
explore why some of the hardest seasons of our lives may actually be preparing
us for something greater.
We'll
look at why acceptance isn't weakness and why sometimes saying, "It is
what it is," is one of the healthiest decisions you can make.
We'll
also talk about health, because I know there are readers who will be asking,
"But what if my biggest battle is my body?"
I
understand that question more than most.
My
health changed my life forever.
But
it also taught me something that I hope stays with you long after you've
finished this book.
Tomorrow
isn't promised.
That
realisation changed the way I live.
I
stopped putting things off.
I
stopped waiting for the perfect time.
I
stopped waiting for people to change before I allowed myself to move forward.
I
started focusing on what I could control instead of what I couldn't.
That
mindset has opened doors I never imagined possible.
If
you're looking for a book that promises life will become easy, this isn't it.
Life
will still test you.
People
will still disappoint you.
Plans
will still fall apart.
There
will still be days when you question everything.
But
my hope is that when those days come, you'll think differently because of what
you've read in these pages.
My
hope is that you'll stop asking, "Why me?" and begin asking yourself
a better question.
"What
am I going to do now?"
Because
that's where real change begins.
So
whether you're rebuilding after a relationship, recovering from illness,
starting again after failure, facing criticism, chasing a dream, or simply
trying to become the best version of yourself, I hope these pages encourage you
to keep moving forward.
You
don't need to have lived my life to benefit from these lessons.
You
only need to be willing to change the way you think.
So
let me leave you with one final question before you begin.
What
if the question isn't, "Why me?"
What
if the question is... "Why not you?"
