I was completely blown away by Zero - it's unlike anything I've ever read. I'm usually a slow reader but finished this in one evening. Although the content is dark, I was really struck by how much I sympathised with the main character, and how funny she was. When you first open the book your immediate impression might be that the book looks experimental - there are very few words on the page, the narrative seems direct and sparse - don't be put off. The story is told in the first person, in a very direct, authentic and convincing voice of the main character. The direct style only makes her more accessible. For a book about such dark themes, I actually found it wasn't depressing at all - it's bursting with energy. After reading it, I felt more alive than before I sat down to begin it. Really incredible book shortlisted for the 2019 Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize that deserves more attention.

Not my type of book!! It is written like a diary of a person, whom is suffering with mental health issues. Personally, I didn't enjoy this book and won't be reading another one by this author. However, it was a winner of a first book award, entitled-Tarjei Vesaas in this author native country of Norway. Maybe, some of it was lost in translation? Either way, it is not a good read; but others may well disagree. I was going to give it one star but decided based on this to give it two stars.
