Can she piece everything together in time to save him? I absolutely loved the premise of this novel. Usually in time loop stories you see people just reliving the same day over and over but here we have someone going further and further back from the incident trying to find the pivotal moment which led to her son killing a man. Through Jen’s eyes we see past days and get to know Todd and her husband Kelly, as well as herself. Jen was a great protagonist and incredibly real - the doubts and shame she felt as a mother thinking she was to blame for working long hours and not spending enough time with him will resonate with a lot of people I’m sure. Todd was just adorable and the more you see of him, the more you too can’t understand what led him to hurt someone. The small clues we are shown each time Jen relives a day are fun to try and pick up on and although I guessed some of the twists, I didn’t get everything. It’s a wonderfully crafted novel and explores The Butterfly Effect in such a fun and unique way. This is the first Gillian McAllister I’ve read but it won’t be the last.

You need to concentrate hard to follow the plotting in this ground breaking mystery. Very intriguing plot with a touch of the sci-fi as we follow our protagonist as she travels backward in time after her son murders a complete stranger. There are a few holes in the plotting but it remains a brilliant innovative book which holds your attention and certainly makes you think. Very enjoyable read expertly crafted check it out!

I had started to hear a lot of praise for this newly released novel by Gillian McAllister, so when a fellow book blogger said I should put it straight to the top of my reading pile, I did just that! Boy! Was I glad I did! Read it in 2 days and couldn’t put it down. My husband was fully versed on the plot too as I kept shouting out the plot twists to him as I read! Oh! She’s ……… !!The ….. has just ………!! This is a really great and different take on the family drama/mystery novel and when you read a lot of books something a bit different is always a bonus! I will not give away too much in this review, as the twists and turns are plentiful, but the book opens with our main character Jen waiting up for her son to come home As she stands by the window she sees his figure come round the corner and walk up to the house, but there is someone else out there, someone whom her son murders right in front of her eyes. Well with that opener (and I’m not giving anything away here as this is right at the start of the book and included in the blurb) I was sucked immediately in. What follows though is some fantastic plotting, writing, character development, attention to detail and some beautifully heartfelt written sections. A time travel, ‘why-done-it’ and even if you figure out who’s who and what’s what, a really gripping read that I just couldn’t put down. Huge thanks to the publisher for my advance digital copy.

I started this book yesterday, and finished it today - I could not put it down. Any mother knows that feeling of not being able to go to sleep until their offspring comes home - and this book starts with this situation. Jen stands at the window waiting for Todd to come home ... and witnesses something that sends her life spiralling out of control. Great characters and a believable unbelievable premise - I loved it. A solid 4*-5* read.
