Reviews: Wrong Place Wrong Time (66)
“A must read”
(Paperback)
This is definitely a book for a buddy read or a book club because there is so much to discuss when you read it. At times, it blew my mind!
Imagine you wake up and it’s yesterday. This is exactly what happens to Jen, and she has no idea how to exit the time loop. All she knows is that she needs to make sure her funny, happy teenage boy doesn’t stab this stranger in the future.
I had so many questions while reading @gillianmallister’s book, and I was lucky to be able to discuss this with everyone on my buddy read.
Trust me, you will need to read Wrong Place, Wrong Time. Dust it off from your shelf, download it on your Kindle, or go and buy the book. Get together with some bookstagramer’s and read it as a group. You won’t regret it!
“How Can A Mother Stop A Crime That's Already Happened? An Incredible Read”
(Hardback)
Jen is waiting for her son to come home, he's 18, his curfew is 1am but the clocks go back tonight so he's going to make it on a technicality.
Her husband joins her briefly tells her to come to bed.
She sees her son, there he is she can relax... But no somethings wrong... A man is coming up the road... She knows something us about to happen.
Grabbing a robe & running outside she sees the glint of the weapon.....the unthinkable happens...
The next day Jen wakes up, it's the day before. Why has she gone back? Can she stop what happened to her son happening?
This is a crazy incredible read. I was watching for every small detail with Jen, what was important? Was she a good Mum? Why didn't she see what was happening in the background?
With a life looked back she can see lots of small moments and starts to change them. Moments with her son.
This made me look at my own kids and how small moments do matter. They just want their parents love, time and acceptance. I went away from this book with a lot more than a cracking read. I knew exactly what force had pushed Jen back in time & thought it very well written.
Enjoy the little moments and make more of them. But remember to take a few moments for yourself & read this book.
Thank you Michael Joseph Books for my gifted copy.
“Highly recommend reading”
(Hardback)
This was a cleverly written book where we started at the end and worked backwards. It did take a little bit of getting used to initially but once I got into the story it was great!
Another sucessful book from Gillian McAllister.
“Absolute genius.”
(Paperback)
I read a lot of thrillers but the only one I can remember being so thrilled and mind-blown about while reading it, was ‘The truth about the Harry Quebert affair’ by Joel Dicker. Quite some years ago indeed. That’s how few thrillers are genuiely exciting and above all satisfying. Somehow, endings to great plots are always a bit of a let down. Not here! What a plot! One fatal night Jen, so far happily married and mother to a teenage boy, witnesses from her window an horrific murder, too close to home literally, a shock that seems to propulse her back in time day after day, to try and understand what happened and to stop the murder to take place if she can… Ambitious is an understatement but god knows Gillian Mcalister rises to the challenge! It’s a mad plot told in reverse but not only Gillian manages to make it gripping, she also takes us on a dizzying rollercoaster ride! I could not recommend this wonderful thriller enough. Not only satisfying plot-wise but the characters are all believable and well depicted. The emotional content is by far superior to the average page-turner and it indeed appeals to our deepest wish: what if we could go back in time and change things, do them differently? This novel is an unique opportunity…Don’t miss it!
“Great book, highly recommended”
(Hardback)
I have read and enjoyed all of Gillian McAllister’s precious books but I must say I had my doubts when I read the blurb for this one. I’m delighted to say my doubts were unfounded and this may actually be her best book yet. Initially it feels strange to be shifting back in time but you do get used to it. Jen was a really great central character and you can’t help but feel for her as she tries to sort out what she can or should change as she navigates back through time. This is just so well plotted that you can only marvel that such quality came out of two lockdowns. Great book, highly recommended.
