What a fantastic book, I was completely gripped and drawn in immediately. Some books start as slow burners, but Wrong Place Wrong Time starts at a pace, with every parent’s worst nightmare. I don’t want to give away any of the story, as I think it is best experienced with no prior knowledge, just as I did. That way, the realisation of what is happening, dawns on you at the same time it dawns on Jen. Jen’s situation is incredibly lonely. She is dealing with the most crucial situation, the hardest of her life, even those around her are unable to provide ongoing advice or help. Trying to explain to her friends and family, is virtually impossible. I really identified with Jen, not just because we share our name; the story puts you firmly alongside her, absolutely rooting for her and Todd. There was a point in the book, where a big part of the plot was revealed. It surprised me so much, that I shouted out loud. My husband wasn’t expecting my outburst, so he was even more surprised than I was. I absolutely loved this book, I read most of it in a single day. The story drew me in completely, I was so eager to find out why this was happening, where it would end. After reading the final page, I re-read the first powerful chapter, seeing with fresh eyes. The book is so well structured and plotted, the details so subtle, that you can’t see them until you understand. That understanding will come when the story ends, and begins. This is a very clever, 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ highly recommended read. As I finish this review, I will be checking Gillian McAllister’s back catalogue to add them to the top of my TBR.

Brilliant writing! This book is quite unique and I can't begin to imagine the amount of work that went into it. It is just so clever. Jen witnesses her son, Todd, stab another adult outside their home and fears for her son and his inevitable conviction... however... when she wakes the following morning she has gone back in time to the previous day and then day by day she goes further back in time. Can she solve the mysteries that she encounters as she re-lives her past? Can she change the outcome? There are so many parts to the story that it's impossible to give a full review without spoilers and I won't do that. Suffice to say that there are some shocks along the way and one wonders who can be trusted and is everyone who they are believed to be? Where does her husband, Kelly fit into it all? Solving a mystery by going backwards is pure genius and I applaud Gillian McAllister for such a superb endeavour. It was good to re-visit some fashions, trends and shops as we go back in time over the years - many of which I had forgotten but many memories were rekindled. Altogether a fascinating, page turning and memorable book that deserves every one of glittering five stars that I award it.

My first Gillian McAllister book and won't be my last. This was Waterstones Thriller of the Month earlier this year and as a Bookseller it is now one that I recommend to customers. The synopsis of this book really appealed to me. It's a story of a mother waiting for her teenage son to come home from a night out and as she looks out of her window she witnesses a crime - her son is the murderer. I loved the unique plot and how Jen finds herself travelling back each day into the past to "yesterday" when Todd is yet to commit the crime. The story goes back days, weeks, months and years reliving key moments in the family's life and finding hidden secrets. Although the concept sounds confusing, it really is easy to follow. There were lots of twists and turns, edge of your seat moments and surprises I really wasn't expecting. A really clever, gripping, memorable thriller.

This is something I've never quite experienced before which is an impressive feat; it's a crime thriller but through a sci-fi time travel lens. The book opens with the main character Jen's teenage son killing someone. She doesn't know the victim, and there's no explanation, and everything's chaotic. When Jen eventually gets some sleep, she awakes not to the next morning as expected, but the one prior. Did it really happen? Well, ok, obviously it did as a brief dream would be a rather dull book, but indeed quite what happens next, and what it all means, is one you'll need to read to find out. . Despite the framework, the story remained clear and easy to follow, and kept up the usual high-tempo you'd expect from a good thriller. Yes there's twists, but at no point did these feel tired or overly predictable; indeed at one point I found myself audibly going "OOoooohh!" at a chapter end, before quickly looking around to see if anyone had noticed. . If you like your crime thrillers, you'll love this refreshing story, although perhaps you'll find yourself double-checking the date each morning. Just in case.

Jen has the perfect family. With her son Todd arrested and her family in tatters, Jen goes to bed later that night and wakes up the next day to find herself in the past. Its yesterday and Todd has yet to commit murder and Jen has a chance to discover the truth and save her son, but soon Jen finds herself moving further and further back through her own life. Reliving key moments over days, months and years can she really change the past and save her son's future especially when terrible secrets from the past are revealed and Jen discovers her whole family may have been built on lies. Wrong Place Wrong Time is a fascinating and at times mind bending story that will have you rushing to discover more in this fiendishly addictive thriller. This is a truly original story and told from the perspective of a devastated mother who would do anything to save her son and when she finds she quite literally has a second chance to make things right, time itself proves not to be on her side. This is an astonishing and well thought out story, filled with twists and turns and surprises I really didn't see coming and I'm sure is going to be a smash hit. A memorable thriller and told over a slow but well kept pace, the victory in this book is in its storytelling and its well crafted characters that will have you desperate to discover what happens next. Highly Recommended and Enjoyable! Very Clever!
