“Closest to the Original!”
(Paperback)
by ArthurianReader
This version of Malory's "Le Morte d'Arthur" is one of the best I have read. It is in the original Middle English, and is the only version that is based on Malory's manuscript at Winchester with an introduction and revisions by Caxton. In other words, if you want a reading experience as close to the true intention of Malory without a modern translation, this is it. On the negative side, the notes in the back of the book are difficult to keep track of. They are not marked in the text of the book as you go along, so it's really a hit or miss on whether or not you realise there is a note for the line you are on unless you continuously flip back and forth. This is the only reason I gave his book 4 stars instead of 5.
