Reviews: Without the Moon (1)
“As black as noir..”
(Paperback)
by Michael Hughes at Blackburn
I was lucky enough to receive a reading copy of this book as I read a lot of history and the dark doings in the blackout always fascinated me. The book is based on two true events that happened during February 1942. Cathi Unsworth has taken these event and woven a brilliant noir novel. It pitches you into the London black out during the London Blitz amongst prostitutes, spivs and murderers! A killer is stalking the working girls and notches up victims at an alarming rate. Detective Chief Inspector Greenaway, unhappy at being a murder detective, is the man determined to bring the killer to justice. He pursues the killer through the backstreet pubs and clubs, and is able to call on some unconventional allies to aid his cause. This is a gripping, intense book and highly recommend it. Cathi Unsworth captures brilliantly the dark and seedy side of London at War.
