PS Publishing have once again unearthed some classic horror comics in the form of Witches Tales volume 4. This company ahs really corned the market in classic pr-code horror, and there is not a publisher out there to come near them in terms of the sheer quality and passion shown with these books. Volume 4, features a foreword by Jmae Lovegrove that's great fun to read (the guy's a fan!)plus a look at the artist Tom Hickey, a nic little feature in that it showcases many important but forgotten artists.Then we are into the good stuff! Re-printing issues 22-28 from Dec.1953-Dec1954, this is a really strong collection, stand out tales for me beingDay of Panic a vanpire tale with a difference!,Murder Mansion, a haunted house story with a difference,The Ticket, murder with a twist at the end involving a very famous liner(this story reminded me of the Twilight Zones twist in the tale classics) and Undertaker, in which a thief gets more then he bargained for when he breaks in to a tomb, this one with art by the great Howard Nostrand. But really, all the stories are great lurid fun and add the classic adverts, Mother Mongoose's Nursery Crimes(kind of like the Crypt keeper over at Tales from the Crypt) and the superb repro covers and you have a collection that's simply a must have for any horror fan. If you enjoy this volume i would seek out volumes 1-3,plus the other classic horror comic re-prints from PS Publishing.Harvey Horrors were in the E.C. comics shade for a long time, these collections prove just what a fun and important imprint they were, and it is simly wonderful to see a publisher finally giving them the credit they deserve.
