Reviews: Why We Sleep (21)
“A (not too early) wakeup call”
(Paperback)
This important book is a must read for public administrators and in particular health and education professionals as well as employers and entrepreneurs.
Walker writes a passionate account of the importance of sleep in mitigating everything from cancer, cardio vascular disease, dementia and obesity as well as its ability to promote learning, improved immunity and mental health.
At the heart of the polemic is the conflict between millions of years of evolutionary pressure favouring sleep versus the modern economic imperative and technological obsession of modern life.
Reading this empirically backed work will compel you to rethink everything from life priorities to caffeine and alcohol consumption to your approach to dieting, work and study and use of technology. This is a rare read that has the potential to change the individual and society for the better.
“A very important book.”

Just buy it. This should be forced down the throats of politicians and businesses and should be taught in schools worldwide.
“Must Read”
(Paperback)
I read this book for personal and professional ideas. I support people with very complex challenges and this book gave me so many ideas I wrote three full pages with extended margins! Very inspiring book from a very passionate author, you will struggle to put this down
“Fantastically written, a guide for your conscience”
(Paperback)
Best book I read in years. Extremely well written with a high level of clear explanation. The author reaches out to the reader very well and at such a good level of detail. After the middle there is some repetition of the lesson's learnt from experimentation but not in a bad way, the layout of the whole book is ideal for me to read through end-to-end or others to skim specific chapters.
As someone who did not realise quite how little I had given myself of "sleep opportunity" in the recent past, I am now very conscious of it, and now identify my own mental and physical performance relating to the quality of my own sleep the night before.
For anyone wishing to improve their memory, mood, appearance, physical strength or endurance or general well-being etc the lessons from this book are clear: sleep on it.
“Great read”
(Paperback)
Very informative.
