Reviews: Who Wants Normal? (2)
“STUNNING”
(Hardback)
I saw this book and it was immediately a MUST read, for ALL PEOPLE. It is written excellently and gives an insight on what life is like for Disabled women. It includes many facts and a clear understanding of society.
“Must Read Testimony from Disabled Women”
(Hardback)
I cannot stress this enough - read this book! I usually only read fiction, it’s very unusual for me to read nonfiction, but I was desperate to read the stories of disabled women. A lot of the scenarios they described, especially in the school and body image sections, really resonated with me, as a disabled girl who became disabled very young. I think Frances Ryan is a very eloquent and thoughtful writer, and I really appreciate that she included stories from nonbinary people with disabilities and disabled people of colour, to demonstrate how many layers of ableism and discrimination disabled women can experience. This was definitely my favourite book of the year so far, and I carry it around in my bag so whenever I’m feeling down, I can look at the personalised dedication sticker Frances Ryan sent me.
