I've reached the end of 'White Tears/Brown Scars' and I will say it's an well written book in examining the ties between misogyny, racism and feminism. The book was recommended by the blog Creating Black Characters as part of a digital book club and I am quite thankful for it. The book has provided me more clarity on the structure of racism, it's impacts past and present, and how it ties in with other forms of oppression, most specifically sexism and classism, but from the discussions in the book I can see how clearly it applies to other parts of the world. It's reinforced to me how discomfort is not inherently bad, especially in the process of learning and breaking down biases built up over my White life experiences. The only critique I have is how in the conclusion the use of delusion and npd both demonises and generalises the conditions unnecessarily, but I understand that's an unfortunate blind spot of the author and does not take away from her discussion of racism.
