Reviews: When Shadows Fall (78)
“Another fabulous instalment”
(Hardback)
Another fabulous instalment from Neil Lancaster. The Max Craigie series gets better and better. I could not put this book down. Authentic characters you really care about, strong women, good balance of personal and professional as well as some very unlikely heroes, stand up Barney! Still on path of rogue cops, Max discovers a pattern of women climbers falling to their deaths. Behind this lies a dark web of incels and misogyny which weaves so deeply into the criminal justice system it needs a team approach to smash it apart. Excellent.
“An Exciting Read”
(Paperback)
What a brilliant story a real thriller. Someone is targeting newly single young women who love to climb and then pushes them over the cliff edge to their deaths.Max and Janie and the rest of the team investigate but slowly find that there is more to this than meets the eye. The book is a real page turner ,fast paced and gripping .A fantastic series I can't wait to read the next one .Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC.
“This series keeps getting better & better”
(Hardback)
Excellent read and just when you think plots involving police corruption have been done to death, a Max Craigie novel proves that wrong. Proper on the edge of your seat read, especially the action taking place in the mountains.
Hopefully not the end of the series but if it is, Neil Lancaster has ensured it goes out on a high.
“Brilliant read”
(Hardback)
Brilliant. I was so impressed with the excellent way this was written, and the excellent technical detail that basically went over my head, but was intrinsic to the storyline. I really struggled to put it down and read it within 24 hours.I have read all six of the Max Craigie series, and love all the characters, especially Ross with his ‘potty mouth’ and his soft spots that appear from time to time. The one criticism would be the length of time it took Barney to travel to Haifax and back!!! Did he fly? All joking apart I really cannot wait for the next book, I just hope Max is in it! Would give it 6 stars if I could. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy.
“Gritty Detective Story”
(Hardback)
A very gritty story following DS Max Craigie as he investigates, what the local police are calling, a tragic accident called Leanne Wilson who fell off a cliff but something is not right. With his trusted team. including a feisty woman DC Janie Calder. they start to uncover more women who have been murdered falling off a cliff. and they were all blonde.
On top of the investigation, max is expecting his first child due in 2 weeks time. So the pressure is really on.
Loved the characters and the gritty tension with a surprising ending.
Would recommend for a exciting read and gritty.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
