This is an interesting read for those who like to hear about how gardens were created in the past. It's all narrative with no illustrations.

Had been recommended as ‘the book to read about gardening on poor land’, but it was disappointing: very dated, no illustrations, scant descriptions and so much grumbling about husband, Walter! The cover is like a pretty note book, has no title on front or spine, tiny print and strange wrap of brown paper with blobs of blue tac. Weird.
