Reviews: Watchmen (13)
“Watchmen”
(Paperback)
by Ecowitch
Although this is considered one of the world's best graphic novels, it is more than a graphic novel. It is a satirical and ultra realistic alternative history showing how the world might have been had various events turned out differently. The story is complex, inventive, unusual yet strangely endearing as Moore and Gibbons follow the Watchmen through the years as they battle lowly criminals, notorious crime bosses and each other. The characters are complex and have so many sides to them that one moment you hate them and the next you love them and even by the end you're still not sure who is good and who is evil. The artwork itself is as engrossing as the storyline and, even to the untrained eye, is utterly superb and the inclusion of various extracts from newspapers, the original Night Owl's autobiography and other publications is a particularly nice touch, adding extra depth to the story and breakng the work up. A brilliant read even if you're not a graphic novel fan and one that really makes you think.

Being a 13 year old girl, I am not the target audience for this graphic novel- but that didn't stop me reading it. One of the most insightful and clever things I have ever read. It questions everything and really makes you think. Brilliantly written and drawn, I thoroughly recommend it.

From being a big fan of Graphic Novels, from Sin City, Batman and many other other super hero books. This was a book that as soon as i picked it up, there was no letting go. i loved it so much i read it twice in one day. the story is just excellent, the characters are all perfectly set up and the action is just mind-blowing. this is a novel for everyone, even if you have never read a comic book. The book combines so many different genres into the ultimate superhero story. Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons made this masterpiece nearly a quarter of a century ago, and it still hits harder than another other book has, or possibly ever will.

To put it frank simply great. This graphic novel is just simply sublime don't shy away from this book thinking it is going to be a cheap predictable superhero novel, this could not be further from the truth. Alan Moore has written a great plot which analyses the characters of this novel and the psychology behind grown adults wanting to dress up in a costume and fight crime. Basically i'm not that good at writing reviews but the artwork is great, and also, this book's a bargain 9 quid for almost 400 ages of artwork all in colour, and a beautiful story. Just buy it.
