Reviews: Voidwalker (13)
“Grab thar demon by the antlers and make him your b****”
(Hardback)
I absolutely loved this authors debut book The Pheonix Keeper and when I saw she was writing a darker and spicier book with more bite I knew I needed it!
It is VERY different from her first book but keeps so many of the elements I loved somehow. This is a book at its heart is the characters learning to heal from their past and the guilt they feel over what happened.
Fi is a women in her 30s!!! (Which is already a bonus point for me) who had carefully crafted her badass smuggler persona to cover some deep hurts and Antal is just an oversized disgruntled cat who happens to be a very powerful immortal who eats humans.
I was initially a little intimidated by how long this book was but honestly I could not put it down and absolutely flew through it.
I am nervous for what the author is going to put the characters through in book 2 but I appreciate that it doesn't end on a massive cliffhanger because waiting for the next book is already going to be painful.
I laughed, I cried, I kicked my little feet!
“Vibrant and vicious new world!”
(Hardback)
Such an incredible world, vibrant and vicious. I was completely enthralled from start to finish.
Ever since a brush with death as a child, Fionamara has been able to see “Curtains,” cuts in the fabric separating worlds that allow her to travel to different planes. Her ability comes in handy as a smuggler and gives her an edge in a world ruled by beasts called the daeyari, who control the territories and demand sacrifices in the form of humans to satisfy their hunger.
After a heist gone wrong, Fi is unwittingly thrown into a coup to overthrow Antal, her territory’s daeyari leader. Antal is unseated by a vicious rival who holds a terrifying history with Fi. Now she finds herself reluctantly helping him, one of the very monsters she has spent her life running from. She’s stuck with him, working with him, surviving with him, and maybe even starting to like him. Oh man, things just got a whole lot more complicated…
It has been a while since I’ve been introduced to a world that was entirely new. This one was. The magic system was enthralling and intriguing. The world was mesmerizing, and the creatures were eye-opening. I loved not knowing what to expect or what would come next. It is one of those worlds where the author has full rein to do whatever they want, and they get to just play. I wanted to take my time with this world, devour it, absorb it, and just enjoy it.
Fi’s perspective hooked me instantly. She wears her snark and violence like armor, but underneath, her insecurities peek through, revealing the layers of her character. Then comes Antlers, I mean Antal, disrupting her life, representing all her regrets and fears. He carries baggage of his own, but beneath the weight of family and politics, he is fighting to be better, not the monster others expect. Together, they are a force. Their slow burn was delicious, with the sarcasm turning into flirtation, into heat, into raw need. But it was the soft moments I loved. The care and comfort that neither was used to. Those moments were well deserved, and simply beautiful.
Also, Fi and Astrid’s relationship is heartfelt and emotional, the ache, heartbreak, and connection really hit hard.
All around, an incredible world that I can’t wait to get more of.
“Intoxicating & immersive”
(Hardback)
Well with how much I adored The Phoenix Keeper last year, this title was definitely one of my most anticipated releases this year!
Although this is VERY different from her debut, this book is intoxicating and immersive and I loved it so much!
Voidwalker is a dark and devilish story that I daresay will unlock a new Kink for some readers..
“A devilishly romantic page turner!”
(Hardback)
I was hooked from the first line in this book it was phenomenal!!
Ive been excited to read the book since I heard about it and Voidwalker did not disappoint. Fi the FMC was older at 32 which I loved and I also really liked how much of a badass she is. There were times when I was on the edge of my seat, when I was crying and also laughing out loud it was so well written with the perfect balance of romance, humour and action.
The romance was so good I love an enemies to lovers trope but the tension was palpable in this book. Romantasy books can be quite similar a lot of the time but this was such a unique concept and a great read overall I would 100 percent recommend!
“One of my fav reads of 2025! Don't miss out!”
(Hardback)
I absolutely loved this book! It hooked me in right at the start with such an interesting story and also the fantastic characters the author created. I laughed, I cried and had a bloody good time reading this story. Get this on your TBR for the August release!
The world building in this book is so good. I loved the magic system / technology system in the story. It's different and fresh and added such a unique dynamic to the book. I loved the whole idea of the void and curtains used to travel to different territories.
The FMC in this book might just be one of my favourites. She's a survivor, a grafter and she is hilarious! She's witty, she's funny and the banter between her and the MMC is great. Fi's inner monologue had me giggling away. Especially when she's trying her hardest not to be attracted to Antal.
Antal is a great MMC. He doesn't try to hold her back and he matches her banter blow for blow. They are great together. He enjoys her being wild and challenging him because ultimately he wants to be better. He is incredibly likeable!
The different territories are ruled by different Daeyari rulers. Daeyari are scary and otherworldly and they demand a human sacrifice from their territories each year. After Fi is hilariously caught up in a coup in Antal's territory the pair are forced to pair up in order for him to try and claim back what is his, despite being against the Daeyari and their demands of flesh.
The romance plot in this book is so well done and the spice scenes are well written. There are also elements of sapphic romance in the story. There's fantastic side characters especially in the residents of Nyskya.
The way this book is written keeps you fully invested. I really enjoyed the children's rhymes and fables interspersed between chapters. It adds to the mystery and terror that the Daeyari instill in all the territories.
"So let this be a lesson, a fate to avoid. Futile to fight the beasts born of the void."
The ending is such that this could be a standalone and also there's plenty of material for there to be more books in this series. I seriously hope there is!
