Reviews: Virtual Strangers (15)
“a very fun romance - you'll get attached to all the characters!”
(Paperback)
I loved this book so much! Very good if you’re looking for a fun romance. The characters are all fun and interesting but feel very realistic. The main character Ada is witty and unique and the romance is charming. Highly recommend.
“Funny, Sweet, Fresh - a must-read for Rom-Com fans!”
(Paperback)
Described as "You've Got Mail" meets "The Flatshare", this is a rom-com set in Scotland featuring two leads that I fell in love with fairly quickly.
Ada set up her own PR firm in Edinburgh after leaving her London job due to heartbreak. She runs her business from an open office space in a coffee shop. Fraser works there too - he's a journalist, and they don't exactly get off to the best start when he takes Ada's usual spot. They come to an agreement, and build up a friendship.
After work, Ada enjoys nothing more than checking in with the online Agatha Christie fanfic forum that she has recently rediscovered after writing some of her own Marple inspired stories when she was younger. She gets chatting to a guy, Myster-E, and begins to grow closer to him. But can you fall for someone you've never met?
I enjoyed this book so much. I loved the characters, I loved the storyline, and I loved the (I almost typed 'side quests') additional storylines involving Ada's friend Amal and how she was struggling with parenthood. The author captured those early days of parenting so well - you're tired, you're cranky, you're annoyed, you're simultaneously trying to hide your feelings while getting annoyed that nobody can see how you're feeling - I really identified with Amal's storyline and I appreciated the way it was handled.
I loved the banter, the wit, the humour, the setting - all of it. It was exactly what I was looking for from a rom-com and I really hope it takes off because it's better than 99% of the rom-coms I read last year.
Apologies, Charlie Lastra, but Fraser Evans has just booted you off the #1 Book Boyfriend spot. The man wore a KILT for heaven's sake.
LOVED IT.
Thank you so much to Zaffre books for the ARC via Netgalley. I loved it so much I pre-ordered a copy.
“Hooked!! Could not put down!”
(Paperback)
Described as "you've got mail" meets "the flat share" totally had me hooked, then set it in a beautiful landscape and you have a real winner! Please let all these positive reviews and the cute cover lure you in because I was so hooked I could not put this down!
It has everything you could possibly want from a rom-com, I was in stitches multiple times and watching as they discover the truth was magical. Yes it is a little predictable, but most romance novels are and that is one thing that makes them so comforting so I am all in for it! This book gives you such a cozy feel and I can not recommend it highly enough!
Thank you sooo much to Sam Canning and their publisher for my copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
“Such a fun book!”
(Paperback)
I absolutely loved this book and devoured it in a day!
I loved the characters and the relationship and banter between Ada and Fraser as it changed and evolved throughout the book. It made me want to accompany them on their outings around Edinburgh! And as I will be going there in a couple of months, I wish I could go to this cafe to meet them!
As with most of the books in this genre, I find the endings fairly predictable, but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the plot. I also thought Ada’s mum and her client, Steve, were a nice addition to the book. All of the characters seemed so well fleshed-out and believable, each with a different personality.
““A cozy hug after a day of work””
(Paperback)
A must read for romcom lovers, a love letter to Edinburgh and a light, uplifting read. Would definitely recommend!
