I thought that this book was fantasic. Any one who loved Jane Eyre will love this even more; of the Charlotte Bronte I have read this is the best. The story itself is not as famous or perhaps exciting but the quality of the writting is what really makes this book such an excellent read; the reader is pulled through all of Lucy Snowe's emotions which makes the book so moving and compells the reader to keepgoing untill it is imposible to put the book down. The insite into a differnet time and culture also makes this book as great as it is, but the traslations in the penguin edition are welcome as understanding of the french is vital to the story. A wonderful book that I recomend to everyone (but remember keep a packet of tissues close to hand).

I personally loved this book. It is not as popular as ‘Jane Eyre’ however it deserves the same amount of attention. Lucy Snowe is a character some can relate to which makes this book even better. Many of the characters are so lovable and is definitely worth a try this book!
