Reviews: Vendetta (2)
“Gritty and gripping”
(Paperback)
by Amanda Oughton
I recently discovered Edie's books and what fab reads they are too. I read the synopsis for 'Vendetta', which is the third book in the 'Allegiance Series', and it certainly sounded like the sort of book I have come to expect from Edie - a gritty, gripping and fast paced thriller. Well 'Vendetta' was certainly all that and so much more. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Vendetta' but more about that in a bit. It didn't take me long at all to get into 'Vendetta'. In fact the synopsis was enough to grab my attention and the story sealed the deal as it were. The book seemed to develop a hold over me and it was a hold that I wasn't willing to break. I initially picked the book up only intending to read a couple of chapters but I became so intrigued by the characters and so wrapped up in their lives that I was still sat there reading several chapters and an hour or so later. My Kindle wasn't exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I couldn't bear to miss a single second of the story. The pages were turning that quickly that it was almost as if they were turning themselves and the page numbers became a blur. All too quickly I reached the end of 'Vendetta' and I had to say goodbye to the different characters. I found 'Vendetta' to be a fast paced, gritty, gripping and an at times scary read, which kept me guessing and which kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. 'Vendetta' is extremely well written but then I have come to expect nothing less from Edie Baylis. Edie has a writing style that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained a fast pace throughout. I have to say that some of the characters scared the doo doo out of me and made me thankful that they were fictional characters and not real ones. Reading 'Vendetta' felt like being on a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns along the way. Just when you thought that you could take a minute to gather your thoughts and catch your breath then off the action would go again. I love the way in which Edie makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action - even if the criminal underworld scares the doo doo out of me. In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Vendetta' and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Edie's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 4* out of 5*.
“A great read”
(Paperback)
by Anne Mosedale
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this eARC. This is an excellent addition to an already good series. Edie Baylis certainly knows how to pull her readers in and keep them entertained and absorbed in her books. I found this to be a very well written, thrilling and engaging read. It pulled me in right from the start and held my attention throughout. I loved the addition of new characters who have their own hidden agendas - are they who they seem though? I thought the story flowed really well, I particularly like that it is told through the characters and from their perspectives. Some of the characters are vile, I absolutely loathed them and just want them to be found out and get their come uppance. I think the author portrays her characters perfectly, I either like them or hate them, there is no middle ground at all. I think this is a great book to read, it didn’t quite wow me as much as the previous book although I’d still recommend it. It is best if you read the series in order to get to know the characters and their histories. The ending sets the next book up nicely and I look forward to reading it,
