Robert Harris seems to have "a nose" for a good story. Once again he is able to create a fabulous story from a source that inspired his creative juices about the British military trying to source and destroy the V2 launch pads. Based on true events, although the bulk of the characters are fictional, Harris weaves a tale of intrigue and courage and fills the narrative with facts making the tale seem non-fictional at times. I felt though that the ending was a tad rushed but I did wonder if it could lead to a novel about the American space race endeavours. However, Robert Harris's fans, and that includes me, will not be disappointed with this current novel. I certainly wasn't.

I always enjoy this WW2 genre. Robert Harris has written many books set in this era. I enjoyed this book. but preferred some of his earlier ones

Having never read a Robert Harris book I was worried that I would find it too think with historical detail to enjoy but I was wrong. Plenty of detail so that you feel like you actually learn and understand something but light enough to still be easy and quick to read through. I really enjoyed the changing perspectives between the characters and although a heavy subject I felt like I raced through this.

I am likely to be in a minority here but I found V2 to be nothing special. The reason for 3 stars is solely for the information regarding the "story of the V2" as, for me at least, all of the surrounding story could be applied to just so many other tales. The most important question here is, is this book worth reading? If you want a book that you can read in an airport or on holiday, the answer is a definite yes. If you need something fictional that makes you think, I suggest that you will need to look elsewhere. An Advanced Reader Copy review - free books never buy my opinion!
