Throughout this whole book, I found it touching. Having to release the book from my grip was almost impossible. The way this story is written forms splendid and detailed images in you're mind, and you truley feel as though you are there too, as if you have experienced it all. The way it is composed kept my feelings bubbling around, too. One minute I loved a character, and just as I thought the feelings could not get replaced, I'm feeling slight hatred for them and what they've done - you never know what feelings may occur around the corner! This book kept me on edge from beginning to end, so much so I was gasping, to find the people around me looking, wondering what and why. I have recommended this book to many friends, and I recommend it to everyone who wants to get lost in the world of imagination and feelings.

For many years Starter for Ten has held the position of 'my favourite book of all time. Ever.' It now seems that 'Us' has moved into my top spot. David Nicholls has the incredible talent of being able to write characters who you instantly warm to despite their flaws. I was only a few pages into 'Us' when I realised I was in for a real treat, it is beautifully written, engaging and the characters begin to feel like people you have known all your life. In short - I LOVE this book. I was sent a free copy of 'Us' in exchange for an honest review.

Having been a fan of David Nicholls' since reading 'Starter For Ten', I was immediately excited to get my hands on his new title, 'Us'. 'Us' is a wonderful book from start to finish. Although it does include some of his trademark humour, and those awkward moments that cry British comedy, for the most part this novel is a little straighter. It's a strong, well formed novel, with superb characterisation, emotion and development. Nicholls has a skill for capturing the natural awkwardness that surrounds life; b0e it the things we say, or the things we do without quite thinking them through, it all feels very human and real. His characters are relatable and endearing, even if some of their actions may make you wince. Douglas, the leading man, feels very much like a typical Nicholls character, often out of his depth and comfort zone, struggling to keep up, and usually coming out a little gawkily in a humorously pleasing way. Nicholls tackles a man who is disillusioned from his family, one that is slowly falling apart in a very heartbreaking and engaging way. The relationships between the three main characters are beautifully touching and affecting, jumping off the page and feeling like someone you know, like a close friend. If you enjoyed 'One Day' then you will love this! Another fantastic, un-put-down-able read that will make you giggle and find its way into your heart.

I really loved this book - I really felt I knew the characters. David Nicholls just really pinpoints that difficult relationship that exists between an undemonstrative father and his child - the love that is so definitely there, but that they aren't able to show in the same way as a mother. I thought the book was both hilarious and heart-breaking - I couldn't put it down but I didn't want it to end. Excellent!
