Reviews: Understanding Philosophy for AS Level (1)
“Not great, but okay”
(Paperback)
Before I start I want to say that I have not read even half of this book, because it is based on the old syllabus and has several sections which no longer apply for 2008+ Philosophy.
The topics I read were Descartes and Philosophy of Religion, so I shall review these ONLY. The majority of what I read was good. The author writes clearly in most parts and gives sufficient detail.
But often he gives a little too much detail (though I am not sure whether this is relevant because, as I said, he wrote this for the 2003 syllabus) and puts in topics which, I feel, are not needed. In a few sections, he ends rather strangely to be honest.
Thus, from what I read, this can only get a 3 star rating. It is not quite good enough for a 4, although it is close.
