The second in the series The first in the series is City of Windows and it is not the author’s fault that I hadn’t read them in sequence but this hasn’t affected the star rating given. However, the strong recommendation is to do so as it will add to your enjoyment of this book. Lucas Page is a man of many talents and few limbs having lost an arm and a leg at some time in the past (another reason to read City of Windows). He is asked by FBI chief, Kehoe, to investigate an explosion at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. He agrees to do so accompanied by FBI agent Whittaker who, it took me some while to work out, is female. The bomb at the Guggenheim appeared to target a particular company who were hosting a party there and as Page starts his investigations several other bombs are set off, killing individuals who appear to be unrelated. Page believes there must be a connection and presses forward in his search for the perpetrator. The main characters were difficult to relate to (perhaps another reason to read the first in the series) but the writing was taut and lively. There was plenty of light and shade and certainly a huge amount of violence and gore, so those with a weak stomach should avoid this murder/mystery. , The plot is intricate but I was able to guess who the killer was at an early stage as the storyline is by no means a new one. In fact, even if I hadn’t guessed correctly, so many of the suspects were blown up that, as the plot progressed it didn’t leave too many options open. Having said that, it was a good read and one that encourages the reader to just read one more chapter before bed. A solid 4 stars. mr zorg Elite Reviewing group received a copy of the book to review.
