A wonderful sequel, I love how Mosca and Clent grow as characters, I love the intrigue, and how the ever shifting cooking pot of threat, intrigue and loyalties swirl together, constantly keeping you on your toes and bringing new twists to the fore. As always Frances manages to write for all ages, keeping a perfect pace. I Couldn't put it down :) Can we have a third book please! :D

Twilight Robbery (The Fly Trap, U.S.) is the sequel to Fly By Night but could be read as a stand alone. It’s always daunting to read the sequel to a book you’ve adored but I needn’t have worried. This second instalment of Mosca Mye’s terrible timing & serious scrapes is just as cleverly plotted and compelling as its predecessor. We rejoin Mosca and Eponymous Clent in Grabely- a name, which perfectly encapsulates the grim spirit of the place. We can only imagine some of the scheming and evading capture that has led them to this point but it seems, finally, the law has caught up with Eponymous, who has landed himself in debtors’ prison for failure to pay for damage to an inn caused by Mosca’s battle goose, Saracen: “…a laughing ostler had made the mistake of assuming that if something waddles it is funny, and if it’s funny then it’s harmless, and if it is harmless then there is nothing to be lost by removing its muzzle…’ Is how that particular episode begun to unfold. Mosca toys with the idea of leaving Eponymous. Their relationship is somewhat in the doldrums and she’s feeling burdened by him. Just when she’s about to break free from her silver-tongued albatross, she is kidnapped- her literacy again being her undoing- and put to task by a band of brigands as part of a elaborate kidnapping plot. Thankfully Mosca escapes the motley crew and through a series of weirdly fortunate events, for them anyway, manages to break Clent out of jail by promising his body to experimental medical science no less and the two head off to disrupt the kidnapping plot. The aforementioned action is only the elaborate set up which leads us to Toll, a city which has two totally different faces by day and by night. The imaginative building of this shape-shifting city is incredible: a place of manicured grass, protocols and legitimacy by day, the stuff of nightmares by night. In Toll, everything seems on the cusp of breakdown- in part due to the ongoing sanctions on trade with Mandelion. Surely the kidnap of Toll by Day’s most beloved inhabitant would be a sign their luck is going to run out? Or can Mosca and Eponymous get something right for once? Ambitious, dark and disturbing, riotous and ridiculous. Wonderful, rich and funny. Kept together by a thick thread of heart from the kindness and bravery of individuals along the way and the strengthening bonds of Mosca’s found family.
