Alena has never known her mum. Troublemakers is a book that took me by surprise, and I loved it. It made me think about my political beliefs without being a book about politics, and is likely to reach a lot of young people. The relationships between the characters are complex but wholesome, and you can tell that at the heart of it all they really love each other. I finished Troublemakers in a single day, it was hard to put it down between my breaks at work! I loved it - the voices are so strong, Alena's especially but the other characters as well - they're so real that I want to know them all. It brings up some important topics of politics and morality, but at its heart is a very personal, family-oriented story of a girl trying to find her place. An absolutely brilliant book, and one that will promote some interesting and vital discussions.

When I received this book I thought I had an idea of what it would be about and how it would pan out. I was totally wrong! This book is very engaging and you just want to keep on reading it even after the last page. It is set in current times, we have a bomber in London, politicians campaigning, family life and teenage years. Most certainly recommend.
