Reviews: Tripwire (4)
“Fantastic!”
(Paperback)
An excellent read - fast paced, tense, lots of action, lots of surprises, a formidable hero against a horrifying bully of a villain - you want him to get his comeuppance, and keep reading long into the night to see whether or not he does. My favourite Jack Reacher book so far!
“Fast Paced intelligent thriller”
(Paperback)
I Love books by Lee Child, and Tripwire did not disappoint. The book is an exhilarating masterpiece of the thriller genre that will leave you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. With its gripping plot, relentless pacing.
The strength of "Tripwire" lies not only in its riveting plot but also in its well-developed characters. Jack Reacher is a magnetic character with a unique blend of intelligence, charisma, and a strong moral compass. His unwavering determination and tactical skills make him an irresistible hero to root for. The supporting cast is equally compelling, adding depth and complexity to the story.
Lee Child's writing style is crisp, direct, and propulsive. He seamlessly blends vivid descriptions with concise prose, creating an immersive reading experience. The author's attention to detail is impressive, whether it's in the meticulously researched historical aspects or the intricacies of the action sequences. The pacing is relentless, with each chapter delivering new revelations and building tension, making it nearly impossible to put the book down.
Furthermore, "Tripwire" showcases Lee Child's ability to balance suspense and emotional depth. The story delves into Reacher's past and explores themes of loyalty, honour, and the consequences of war. These introspective moments add layers to the narrative, allowing readers to connect with the characters on a deeper level.
In conclusion, "Tripwire" is a must-read for fans of fast-paced and intelligent thrillers. Lee Child's masterful storytelling, compelling characters, and expertly crafted suspense make this book an exceptional addition to the Jack Reacher series. If you're looking for an adrenaline-fueled journey filled with gripping twists and a charismatic protagonist, "Tripwire" is an absolute triumph and a must for you.
“Second to None”
(Paperback)
First published in 1999 Tripwire is the third book in the Jack Reacher series. It is easy to see why Lee Child and the Reacher series gained such popularity when one reads this book. Reacher is the hero we all want to be.
Reacher has reached Key West, Florida and is currently working as door security earning a few dollars a night. Reacher is drinking a bottle of water as someone enters the bar looking for him. Reacher plays dumb and tells the man there is nobody in or around the bar with that name. Nevertheless, the man gives Reacher a card stating that a Mrs Jacob of New York is looking for Jack Reacher.
Later Reacher is working security at the local strip club, when two men try to enter the club without paying and they too are looking for Reacher. He responds that he does not know who they are looking for and kicks them out. Later that night he discovers the person who was trying to find him dead, and he knows he has to go to New York
He finds out that Mrs Jacob lives out at Garrison not far from West Point he is intrigued. When he arrives at Mrs Jacob’s house there is a military funeral taking place. When he enters, he recognises Mrs Jacob as the daughter of his former CO Leon Garber. Last time he had seen Jodie she was fifteen years old. Jodie came across to welcome him and also to tell him that her father had died and that he had arrived at his wake.
Later that night as Reacher and Jodie are travelling towards New York they are ambushed by two men. So begins a thrilling ride that takes Reacher back to the politics of the Vietnam war, corrupt American finance and lists of dead people. At the same time Reacher reconnects with Jodie now a thirty-year-old divorced lawyer, who he finds has always held a candle for him. At the same time, he is trying to find the answers to something Leon Garber had started. Little did he know that it was going to be the battle of his life.
This is a fantastic thriller which leaves the reader wanting more. It is also a reflection of the research that Child puts in to his work, making it second to none/
