As I was drawing to the end I was going to give this book 4 stars but the ending had me so shook and it filled me with so much adrenaline and I literally slammed the book down and finally breathed a breath that I didn't know I was holding in, and now I will slam my hands down on the table repeatedly demanding MORE SCYTHE MORE SCYTHE. The 2nd edition of Scythe was great It felt like a little history book of the Scythe world and it was so deeply interesting. The politics were a tad boring and had me skimming it a bit but I understand it was necessary. But a part of me is so tired of the politics parts of books and I wish that people wouldn't dedicate so much of the plot on it because it leaves me so utterly bored. It made me take almost a month to finish this book because to be honest I wasn't as amused with it as the first one and found myself more bored but I've already become so attached to the characters I demanded more. I'm also so in love with this world and unique concept I'm glad I pushed on because to be honest it is such a wonderful series and I love this world so much and could happily read it over and over again

I didn't think Neal Shusterman could surpass himself after Scythe, and yet here we are! And what a worthy sequel! He managed to expand and enrich the world he'd built in his first novel, to transport me into every political intrigue, moral conundrum, philosophical battle with such talent and ease! I don't want to give too much away, but fans of Scythe won't be disappointed - although you MIGHT curse the heavens because you'll feel you need to read the next installment RIGHT. AWAY. I have never been happier to open up the post and find a book!

Thunderhead continues where Scythe left off. Citra is now Scythe Anastasia, finding her way as a scythe and causing waves in the Scythedom. Rowan is off-grid, becoming the urban legend Scythe Lucifer and feared and hunted by the Scythedom. This sequel is amazing, Neal Shusterman has taken the series to a new, epic level. The twists and turns, the reveals, this is an outstanding thriller. There are still questions about what humanity has gained or lost with the achievement of immortality. Power can still corrupt even where checks and balances should root it out. Next book please, the suspense is almost unbearable.

Following on from ‘Scythe’, ‘Thunderhead’ focuses on Citra as she takes on the role of Scythe Anastasia, and Rowan as he is on the run from the authorities. This book looks much more into the AI side of things, with chapters being broken up by snippets from the Thunderhead’s seeming consciousness (as opposed to journal entries as was the case in Scythe). Once again, Shusterman’s writing had me on the edge of my seat throughout the novel! Ending on not one, but SEVERAL, cliff-hangers, ‘Thunderhead’ left me wanting more, and I don’t know how I’m going to survive the wait for the next instalment of the Arc of a Scythe series!

4.5 stars I am blown away (again by this series and how it ended). This was the kind of second book that we don’t see as readers very often, the kind of book that exceeds the first book in expectation and enjoyment. THUNDERHEAD took all of my preconceptions from book one and set a bomb in the middle of them, leaving me jaw-dropped to the floor. THUNDERHEAD itself had much more characterisation in this book and I loved every reveal, every moment of narration from the Thunderhead. I learnt so much more about the workings, ethics and even affection that the Thunderhead had and used to operationalise the world in this age. The scythes, however were an unhinged s**t show. Oh how they unraveled in this story and how I loved reading it all. The usual suspects were there, Scythe Curie, Scythe Anastasia (Citra) and Scythe Lucifer (Rowan). But oh my word, there were some scythe surprises too. I was shook. This installment introduced the concept of unsavouries which was an interesting depth to this age and Grayson’s character made for interesting reading. We also learnt a bit more about the tonists too. So who stole the show in this book? Two characters, firstly the THUNDERHEAD themselves and then Scythe Anastasia. I am now left in total suspense for what will happen in the final installment of this excellent series. If you’ve not started Arc of a Scythe, then what have you been doing with your life?
