This is an excellent read, written in a very easy going, but informative style, just as you would expect from Tracy Borman (OBE), easily one of the best historians around these days. Her knowledge of the Tudor period is second to none, and she brings together so much information on this Jekyll & Hyde character. I doubt anyone reading this book would find anything missing from Cromwell's life and death, such is its scope. With the upsurge in interest in Cromwell, thanks the the superlative "Wolf Hall" books and TV series, this is a must for anyone wishing to go beyond the "faction" of Hillary Mantel & Peter Kosminski. You will probably still be as conflicted about Crumb once you've read this, with his duality as both a villain, and a reformer, and no doubt some will feel he got his just desserts on the block, but me, I can't help but be sympathetic towards him, in part due to the nature of his downfall, and the fact that those responsible, with an axe to grind, as it were. were probably more brutal than Cromwell was. (Norfolk WAS an absolute b*stard!). The less said about Henry, the better. Whatever your views on Thomas Cromwell, you will put this book down at the end much more informed about him, and the times he lived in.

Thomas Cromwell by Tracy Borman, is the untold story of HVIII'S most faithful servant. In my opinion, I thought that Thomas Cromwell was a mean, strict man. But this book changed my opinion completely. I generally do not like books about the tudor era. But I found the book a fascinating and exceptional read. And that I couldn't put it down. And I have learned a great deal more about the tudor era and about Thomas Cromwell himself, both in his work life and his personal life. So as soon as I finished the book. I recommended this book to all my friends and family.
