Reviews: Thirst (41)
“Dark but funny”
(Hardback)
by Daniel Taylor
Not a classic comedy topic, but John (JJR) is not your typical comedian. It is deeply troubling and contemplative but will then have you laughing and not knowing quite whether you should. The approach to the topic is unique, confronting and surprisingly readable. The way he discusses alcohol and the relationships we build with it is challenging and enlightening. Maybe it’s not a massive laugh but it is a massive achievement.
“First class!”

Robins is braver than 10 firemen, or a dozen policemen. He really has “bounced back”. Lovely stuff.

An engaging read - I’ve learnt to so much about alcoholism. The book is so thoughtfully written and also funny.
“Could not put it down!”

It really is a great read with some highs and lows but with lots of laughs. John Robins tells a great story and the fact that is is true hits home. Thoroughly recommend.
“Insane”

I have been a fan of Johns work for many years. I found myself wanting to pick it up at any free moment but had to pace myself as I was finding his experiences difficult to read about. this book has made me cry and laugh throughout. I have not lived a life centred or close to alcohol in really anyway and found it eye-opening for the kind of feelings it gives you. I wish him well on his journey.
