Reviews: Third Policeman (2)
“Surrealist masterpiece!!”
(Paperback)
A murderous thief, a nonsensical theoretical scientist, mind-bending inventions, an army of one-legged men, an awful lot of bicycles, and at the centre of it all, a trio of village policemen!
“I'd give it 7 out of 5, if I could!”
(Paperback)
The Third Policeman is Flann O'Brien's masterpiece, and one of my favourite books.
It starts off seemingly quite straightforwardly, with a theft and a murder, but then it gets surreal! Chapter after chapter contains one mind-blowing idea after another.
What sort of place is this? What exactly is going on? Is it about a bicycle? And who IS the third Policeman? It's a very peculiar pancake, to be sure.
I won't give anything away, I just recommend that you give it a try and delight in this brilliant work of insane genius!
(One thing; it deserves much better cover artwork than the Harper Perennial edition).
