Reviews: The Wrong Man (2)
“An Intriguing Read”
(Paperback)
This book was previously published as Walls Of Glass.
In the weeks that followed, Jane did her best not to think about anything very much. Unusually it worked. But every so often she would freeze, and tremble at the terrifying realisation that she wanted to leave her husband. while many regard her marriage with admiration and a touch of envy, Jane by then quietly reaches the shocking conclusion that her relationship with Michael, a successful banker with little time for her - or the nitty-gritty of family life - is failing. Even daring to contemplate leaving Michael is daunting.
Amanda Brookfield gives a detailed look into marriage and relationships. This is a well written story with well-developed and flawed characters. I also liked the authors writing style. The pace is steady throughout. I really felt for Jane, everyone thought she had the 'perfect' marriage. I was pulled in after reading a couple of chapters, then I was hooked. This is quite an emotional read.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #BolswoodBooks and the author #AmandaBrookfield for my ARC of #TheWrongMan in exchange for an honest review.
“An intriguing read”
(Paperback)
I have read and thoroughly enjoyed a few of Amanda's books now. I still have a few more to go before I can say that I have read everything that she has written. I read the synopsis of 'The Wrong Man', previously released as 'Walls Of Glass', and it certainly sounded like the sort of book I have come to expect from Amanda - a psychological thriller with plenty of twists and turns along the way. Well it was certainly that and so much more. Overall I really enjoyed reading 'The Wrong Man' but more about that in a bit.
I have to be honest and say that it took me a little while to get into 'The Wrong Man' but that is because I was feeling tired and finding it hard to concentrate when I started to read the book. However after the first few pages, I realised that there was more to the story that I had expected and that intrigued me. Reading 'The Wrong Man' was certainly addictive and ensured that the story stayed fresh in my mind whether I had the book in my hand or not. If I had to put the book down then I would immediately look forward to being able to pick the book up again. If I wasn't reading the story then I was thinking about it and well you get the picture. My Kindle was well travelled whilst I was reading 'The Wrong Man' because it accompanied me everywhere with me. I couldn't bear to miss a single second of the story. I became so wrapped up in the story and in the lives of the different characters that I lost all track of time and just how quickly I was getting through the story. All too quickly I reached the end of 'The Wrong Man'. I found 'The Wrong Man' to be a tense, gripping and dramatic read, which certainly kept me guessing and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.
'The Wrong Man' is well written. Amanda certainly knows how to grab the reader's attention and draw them into what proves to be one hell of a read and then some. For me, 'The Wrong Man' is more of a slow burner type of read, which suits the story that Amanda is telling. As the story continues, the pace gathers momentum and leads to a tense conclusion. The characters in 'The Wrong Man' are so vividly and realistically that they seem just as real as you and I. Reading 'The Wrong Man' felt like being on an at times scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns along the way. I love the way in which Amanda makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action.
In short, I really enjoyed reading 'The Wrong Man' and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Amanda's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 4* out of 5*.
