This Is a John Grisham Book, it's very Grishamy. The marketing proudly proclaims Grisham has written a best-seller, every year for last 20 so it's fairly formulaic; but hey if your part of the trio of bestselling authors ever you don't need to fix anything. No surprises for fans you are in familiar territory. The story is split into, three parts, a lot of reviewers have critiqued the first part for being overly long, I didn't mind the set-up part. I do feel that the reader would have had a lot more sympathy for Simon's predicament if Grisham had made an effort to make him nicer in this first section. The 2nd part was more engaging though and the final third of book was much more interesting. In fact, I think a much better, book could have been made if Grisham had started with this, but hey on to the 2026 deadline. If you've somehow never read a Grisham, I'd maybe Start at the beginning The Firm or Pelican Brief." The last Grisham book I read was The Summons, and I really didn't like it, this one was ok. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3.

I have read many of this author's novels, and though it was readable, I personally felt it never really grew into a favourite story for me, I found it a little mundane and flat footed,it will not stop me enjoying more Grisham as and when he publishes.

I have read most of John Grisham’s thrillers but The Widow was a disappointment. It was very slow for the first half and the ending was definitely rushed. Almost like a word count had been reached. So not one of his better books
