Another great thriller of the month! It’s got some clunky moments of exposition and things sometimes feel a little tedious and drawn-out, but overall it’s a really gripping read. The characters are all instantly fully-rounded and engaging (though not always likeable) and the plot, however clunkily delivered, is really captivating. I flew through this in a couple of sittings and I think it’d be hard not to! As far as these friends-turned-strangers-go-to-a-dinner-party-gone-wrong thrillers go, this is a very strong one. It manages to exist within that tried and tested formula while still having its own relatively unique identity, and while, in the wider world of great crime novels, it’s not one I can see myself ruminating on much in future, it was still a damn good ride while it lasted.

I really enjoyed reading this book but the plot was somewhat unbelievable. There were so many subplots and shootings at random. I read it really quickly to find out the end, but decided that Edwards must have got over halfway through the writing before he decided on the ending. Still a good read.

IN 1999 a group of 6 recent graduates and an eccentric professor, does some research in developing a new dating site using psychological testing but things start to go wrong. Years later they are all invited to a dinner party in London. They haven’t seen each other in years except for Georgia and Theo who are both married. But when things start to get deadly. They are held hostage until someone reveals a secret. But they are all unaware of what that secret it is, until they reminisce back to 1999 and suddenly, they start opening up to each other and secrets start being revealed. I am always excited to hear a new Mark Edwards book. So, I was looking forward to reading this one. The author is a great storyteller, and I was intrigued by the premise of this story. But for me personally found this to be quite slow and a very long build to the main part of the story and I only got really fully invested in it until the latter half when all the secrets are revealed. 3.5 stars from me

In 1999, Professor Sebastian Marlow had gathered together a group of his students to create a revolutionary dating app based on psychology, it was an app that was going to make them all wealthy but without explanation, the professor suddenly dropped the project. Twenty five years later, the six students, Georgina, Theo, Will, Sophie, Rohan and Lily had gathered at the grand house belonging to Georgina and Theo, to remember Sebastian. The six were nervous about the reunion, now wealthy, Georgina and Theo were married with two daughters, one of whom had disappeared, Sophie was whiling her time away living on the inheritance left to her by her grandmother, Will, still carrying a torch for Sophie was a, would be ,writer, Rohan was married with children and still chasing his dream of wealth and Lily, the brains of the outfit was divorced with children and unbeknown to the others, had created a mind blowing app called The Wasp Trap. The dinner party had hardly started when the guests realised that they were locked in the house with no wifi or phone lines. As the story unfolds, guns are produced from an unexpected source, one of the guests had a secret that the gunman needed, people started dying and so the guests each in turn revealed their secrets from 1999.........were they the secret that the gunman wanted ? they certainly surprised the rest of the group. This is a good, well written story, my only downside was that I didn't really find any of the characters likeable and I thought that it went on a bit too long, it did however have a neat twist at the end, Thank you Net Gallery for this ARC my review is totally voluntary.

Excellent title and good plot – although I found aspects of the delivery too author-convenient. With a cast of characters, apart from two or three (one of whom is murdered), who were unlikeable, the locked room scenario worked well in the main. With psychopaths leading the charge, events could only go one way.
