Well, this is one of the books I wouldn´t normally pick out, but I have to admit that it´s amazing how it´s not one of the books that looks at the world through rose tinted glasses and gives true and realistic outlook on life from the main character´s point of view. The plot is quite basic but the way in which the book is written gives it something that makes you want to know the ending, it´s charming in a way. Well worth the read!
“Enjoyable and easy read”

I haven't read much by David Nicholls, even though Starter for Ten is one of my most favourite books! The Understudy did not make it into that category, however, it was funny and very enjoyable. The author does a great job with a rather useless male narrator, who has these notions about what life is supposed to be. In the case of The Understudy, the narrator is an actor waiting for the big break as everyone around him moves on with their "real" lives. It's very similar in tone to Starter for Ten and I do recommend it if you fancy a laugh in these uncertain times :)
“Easy to read”

This is well written and easy to read but not as good as 'One Day' if you're looking for something similar. The storyline seems a little thin and not quite credible in places.
