Reviews: The Truth (5)
“157/10. Bloody brilliant!”
(Paperback)
This is one of my favourite Discworld Novels. I know I always say that because I adore Pratchett’s humour and social commentary but this one has a special place because in it we have the guards, DEATH and political machinations of Ankh Morpork.
In this book, the printing press is introduced to the city by a band of dwarves working with the gentile, but penniless, Willliam De Worde. Their new paper, ‘The Times’, begins to put the perilous stability of the city and its guilds in jeopardy. As William and his team shun the frivolous stories of comedically shaped vegetables on search of THE TRUTH, they are taken all over the city and meet some of Ankh Morpork’s best loved characters on a journey to crack the case of the crazy Patrician.
“Fabulous.”
(Hardback)
This tale of the first newspaper in Ankh Morpork is absolutely wonderful.
The cast of misfits who band together are adorable (Otto is the very best) and the pulp fiction/reservoir dogs baddies are hilarious and terrifying in equal measure.
I really enjoyed seeing characters who have major roles in other novels popping up in the background here.
A great Discworld novel.
“A Very good to read”
(Paperback)
A Very good to read Terry-Pratchett has put a fantasy with a bit of comedy into it how did you think of these things?
“Gem!”
(Paperback)
Another gem by Mr. Terry Pratchett. An interesting take on press/mass media within Discworld. For me with certain interest in that field it made the book even more curious.
Loved the characters, the twists & turns and small stories within.
Also, that vampire iconographer! Pardon me, photographer.. Oh!
Go, read this, it's good, really good.
“Good story, not much humour”
(Paperback)
I came to the discworld series through my brother who recommended it after reading the first four books. When I read the colour of magic book 5 had just been released. I loved the books when I read them. Over the coming years I read each book and enjoyed them but unfortunately I started to waver with pratchett's writing. The books at first and for some time after, were very good stories and very funny. But I started to find that they became either a brilliant story but not funny or extremely funny with a weak plot. So after book 25, the truth I stopped reading pratchett. I do have very fond memories of the books though. None were terrible, most were brilliant I just fell out with them.
The discworld series is packed with invention and humour. Characters leap off the page from rincewind, to the guards of Ankh-morpork, the witches to death, who is my absolute favourite character. The rating will give my feelings for each book. I still recommend pratchett to others despite my stopping reading him. The books are good and one day I may consider returning to them, time and money permitting.
