The book itself is lovely and enjoyable. Only marked down as for some reason my copy came printed upside down and backwards so it looks a little odd when reading!

Compete as a traitor or a faithful in this ‘choose your own adventure’ interactive book, based on the TV sensation The Traitors. This is a fun, interactive book for fans of the show, with re-readability as there are multiple different pathways you can take with different results and outcomes. I survived all the way to the final and won as a faithful in my first read-through, which I’m inordinately pleased about. Now considering applying for the TV show. The in-game story is a bit shallow. There are 21 other ‘players’ and all we really learn about them is their name, age and where they’re from. It’s impossible to remember details about each of them as you go through the book and, for the most part, it doesn’t really matter. You don’t forge relationships with or connections to any of the characters, which is a shame because I think this differs wildly from the TV show where you form strong opinions about each player and this clearly influences the way you vote. However, as you’re not required to vote for who to banish, relationships or predictions on who the traitors are really don’t matter in order to play the game. The multiplayer bonus games were a bit of a weird inclusion in a single-player interactive book, but they’re a nice addition if you’re ever looking for ideas of games to play with friends. I also enjoyed the author’s tongue-in-cheek commentary on how ludicrous and vapid some of the decision-making in this game actually is. It’s not directly mentioned, but I could totally see what the author was saying.

The book is written in point form, you have to follow each point which takes you to the next to read, sometimes it’s a decision to make and you follow that route. If you answer according to how you would react then you can end up ‘murdered’ quite quickly (happened to me). It then suggests you go back to a certain point to restart and choose different answers to see if you can get further into the book. Not great as you have to follow the points through that you have already read and answer differently when questions are posed. IMO not a great read, stick to the TV show!
