Reviews: The Split (63)
“A Stunning and thrilling read.”
(Hardback)
by Alison Cook
This is an absolutely fascinating, terrifying, riveting, fast paced story that tangles you in knots. Such is ‘The Split’ written by Sharon Bolton as read on the Pigeonhole app with other readers and the author who read along with us. Commenting with other readers we endeavoured to work out the story. Ha! not in a million years. Such is the superb writing and the creative mind of Sharon Bolton. Not for one moment will you work out what is going on. It’s a stunning story, engaging characters, beautiful imagery, and amazing narratives. This story is a must to read. You cannot leave it on the shelf without it jumping out at you. I’ve read this on the Pigeonhole app, and I shall neither forget this book nor my pigeon friends and our commentaries. Superb. It deserves a 5 star +.
“A superb read.”
(Paperback)
by Celia Bateman
A rollercoaster ride of raw emotion, brain teasing twists and turns plus cat and mouse terror. Set mostly in the desolate, frozen world of South Georgia, an island off the coast of Antarctica, Felicity, a Glaciologist, struggles with her past and present in an action packed, utterly gripping thriller which will have you staying up all night to finish. A superb read.
“Physiological Thriller”
(Hardback)
by Happy Reader
A different style of thriller partly set in a cold landscape. I couldn't wait to turn the pages of this to find out what happened. The characters back stories kept me guessing throughout and whilst there were some subtle clues the ending took me by surprise. This was the first book I have read by this author but I am going to find her other books now.
“Another good read from this consistent writer”
(Hardback)
by Eileen Welsh
I've read all of Sharon's books and really enjoyed them all and this was no exception. It's a slow starter and covers a very complicated subject, which piques the reader's interest, as little snippets of information are dropped onto the page and as I enjoy a good thriller, I found myself coming up with all sorts of theories and wondering if I was right. I was right with some of my theories and surprised by other things discovered on the way. All in all a good book and well worth a read.
“Thrilling and compelling.”
(Paperback)
by Stephanie Humphreys
I recently read this book for November’s read with my online book club and wow what a tale! It centres on Felicity who has moved to study glaciers in a remote part of South Georgia but is followed by the man she has fled from. It starts off in the present time and then goes back in to the past showing the lead up to why she leaves the UK in the first place. I really enjoyed this book, it’s thrilling and compelling and will keep you hooked right from the off! This was my first Sharon Bolton read but I will definitely be reading more from this author, as the descriptive language she uses to set not just how people feel and what they are going through but landscapes and places too. If I could give higher than five stars I would!
