I really love Mark Billingham books and have really enjoyed the Tom Thorne series - so Detective Declan Miller was always going to be a hard act to follow. This is the third in the series and now the mystery surrounding the demise of Millers wife has been resolved - this story came into its own. There was one aspect of a spectral nature I found a little odd but to say more would provide unacceptable spoilers. As always the bookwas well written and cleverly woven together and I think Detective Miller is growing on me - even his rats. I look forward to more Mark Billingham

Detective Miller is a very unconventional Detective , his methods and his humour makes him one of the kind! This book had me hooked from the first page . A great plot with the right amount of humour and emotion with a few criminals thrown in for good measure . A fast paced read with intriguing characters that made the pages fly by . Mark Billingham just gets better with each new book he writes . Highly recommended! Thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK.

This is a Mark Billingham Niven so it goes without saying that it's going to be at the very least, good. It's way better than good though and is actually excellent. This latest in the Declan Miller series provides the perfect break from his long running Tom Thorne series as the humour of the author takes more of a front seat even though the story remains extremely serious. While I'd recommend starting with the 1st in the series, just because they are so good, there really is no need as the characters and background will all fall into place very quickly. Read it and enjoy.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I’ve always loved Mark Billingham’s Tom Thorne novels but I’m starting to think I might love Declan Miller a little bit more. This is the 3rd one I’ve read now and each one gets better and better. Can’t wait for the next one. And it would make great TV!
