Reviews: The Second Coming (5)
“John Niven on top form”
(Paperback)
John Niven's third novel is by far his funniest. I laughed out loud many times. Thoroughly recommended to readers who like uber modern fiction and who don't take life too seriously.
“The Second Coming”
(Paperback)
Brilliant book - too bad that most people who would need to read it would most probably never do so (I'm referring to fundamentalists of every kind and to those who are positive they know exactly what God wants).
Apart from being a hilarious book, it does provide a lot of subjects to think about - but, again, religious fundamentalists will never benefit from it...
"Be nice"! :-)
“brilliant!”
(Paperback)
This is such a funny thought provoking book. The characterisation is brilliant and it is extremely witty. However there is so much more to it, it sends out the message that nothing is more important than being nice to each other and always doing what you believe is the right thing. This book may come over as being blasphemous but I think if people give it a chance they will see the author is far more sensitive to his subject than one would first think.
“Great...Unless you're a Christian”
(Paperback)
The cover of The Second Coming will entice any atheist to pick it up off a shelf; and its contents don't dissapoint. The Second Coming is just plain hilarious: poking fun at humans, our ideas in regards to the bible and Simon Cowell. A great read from a talented author.
“A childish attempt to revile God.”
(Paperback)
This book ridicules the God I love. One day Jesus IS going to return and Mr Niven will be held accountable.
What a shame that he has alienated the millions of Christians
who are avid readers.
