Reviews: The Rule (25)
“The Rule by David Jackson”
(Hardback)
The Rule by David Jackson is an absolutely mesmerising fascinating story, which keeps the reader enthralled until the very end. This storyline kept me intrigued from the first page to the last. It may be one of the best books I have read this year.
Highly recommended
“Really good followup to his previous novel The Resident - Recommended!”
(Hardback)
Excellent thriller from the author of the very well received thriller The Resident. In The Rule Scott & Gemma only want to protect their 23 year old, but vulnerable, son Daniel. When a man is killed they enter a cycle of trying to do the right thing to protect Daniel as outside factors close in and they see their escape routes closed off. How far will they go to protect him and what can a pair of ordinary parents do when faced with the unthinkable? Really pacy with great dialogue and oneliners alongside an increasing sense of tension as they manoeuvre to the point of thinking they can get away with this. David Jackson is an author to follow.
“Gripping”
(Hardback)
I really enjoyed The Resident by David Jackson so I was really excited to read this ARC copy.
Daniel is twenty three years old and must follow The Rule at all times. If he doesn't people get hurt. Now Daniel has broken The Rule and a man is dead. How far are his family wiling to go to protect him? Will the police find out the truth and if they do what will this mean for Daniel and his family? Twists and turns galore that had me gripped from the start.
The Rule was a definite 5 star read for me. I was hooked from page one and read this in two sittings. David Jackson has done it again.
“Gripping”
(Hardback)
I didn't know what to expect when I picked up this book, but what I got was much better than I'd ever imagined.
The story follows Daniel, who is 23, but mentally a lot younger, and who doesn't know his own strength.
His life revolves around his favourite comic book character Adam 9 and his family. So when he sees a man attacking his father he tries to stop him, but he accidentally kills him.
What happens next is his families worst nightmare, if they go the the police they'll take Daniel away, So they decide to dispose of the body, that's what every other family would do, wouldn't they ?
But will that be the end of it, or will the past come back to haunt them all ?
This is a thriller and a half. It makes you wonder just how far you'd go to protect the ones you love. It's an absolute roller coaster of a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat right until the last page. One of the best books you'll read this year.
“Another brilliant offering by David Jackson.”
(Hardback)
I am becoming a fan of David Jackson’s writing. I read The Resident last year which I really enjoyed, and The Rule is another brilliant offering from the author.
22-year-old David has a mental age of a little boy. It’s his birthday next week and he wants fish and chips and a Caterpillar cake. His favourite superhero is Adam 9 and he has all his comics etc. David also a gentle giant who had unbelievable strength. Because of his strength and previous incidents David’s dad Scott has set a rule. But when one day when he is in a lift with his father, and they encounter with Joey Cobb, a local gangster who threatens Scott, David breaks that rule and ends up killing Joey. This incident starts a whole heap of events for Scott who tries to protect his son by getting rid of his body. But the body is found, and it is a race against time before the killer is found.
This is another brilliant book from David Jackson I could not get enough of it. This had a unique cleverly written story line, great characters, and plot, that had me hooked until the last page. I loved it. This is an author to watch. 5 stars from me.
