Reviews: The Nightmare in Him (4)
“Brilliant”
(Hardback)
This second book in the Devil's Cradle series follows on very quickly from the first .
Wynter's coven are up to their usual tricks , dark humour abounds , will they ever behave themselves ?
Her relationship with Cain goes from strength to strength , both knowing the other is keeping secrets but accepting that they will be revealed in due course .
Further attacks and attempts to capture Wynter are being made by the Aeons who need her to lift the curse on their land but to no avail .......... Cain will do anything to keep her safe .
This is a great plot and character driven fantasy book with dark humour at the most inappropriate moments - which lead to laugh out loud moments . With surprising developments and secrets revealed this book kept me enthralled throughout - I cannot wait for the next book in the series
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
“A must-read book in 2024”
(Hardback)
I really don't know how I last a whole year before I could read The Nightmare in Him, and now I don't know what I'm going to do while I wait for the next book. This series and Suzanne Wright's writing are just too addictive.
In book 1, they defeated one of their enemies, but there are still three more to go. While Wynter and Cain think on a way to free the ancients and protect the people close to them, their relationship develops more and more. It's clear they are made for each other, and something (or someone) wants them together. I'm not sure if it's the goddess backing Wynter or maybe what's sleeping under Cain's castle, but I can't wait to find out. I feel like every time a mystery is unravelled, two more pop up. I need to know everything about Wynter and her 'monster'!
At least we find out more about Cain and the secret he's hiding. It makes so much sense, and I love how it involves mythology. I wish for him to kick Adam's backside once and for all, but I know he'll be getting there.
This story is full of action, laughs and steamy scenes (trust me you don't want to miss it), and now I need to start counting down the days until book 3 releases.
“A "hot" 2nd slice of time with Wynter and her coven at Devil's Cradle!”
(Hardback)
We are back with the Ancients and the Aeons. The Ancients are at Devil's Cradle. Wynter Dellavale is still there with her coven. The Aeons want her back with them (though this would almost certainly lead to Wynter's death). This is book 2 and the first chapter does give something of a resume of the previous book which would allow a new reader to get up to date fairly quickly. Wynter is still involved with Cain who is an Ancient and there is a fair amount of steamy erotica (again)! To call Cain possessive of Wynter would be a vast understatement. All he really wants to possess Wynter eternally (!) but could that really happen?
If you haven't already you really should read The Wicked in Me first if nothing else to find out far more about Wynter's background. While she is a very powerful witch she is also a revenant of sorts and has within her a creature of one of the gods. However people who read book one will know that Cain is not a simple character either - be prepared to find out more about him! As far as this book is concerned the main focus is on Cain and Wynter however the pressure from the Aeons to get Wynter back increases steadily. Equally there is something of a rogue actor among the Aeons who wants their own revenge on Wynter.
I did enjoy reading this 2nd book. While the activities of the Aeons and the Ancients may be centre stage I really liked the aspects that were about Wynter's coven again. They are such a varied group and can be very very entertaining! For those who have wondered exactly what the Aeons and the Ancients actually are these is quite a "reveal" which I enjoyed. If I were being picky I would have to say I didn't find this book quite as compelling as the first one though I'd be hard pushed to explain exactly why I feel that - it may simply be that book one felt very fresh while this is a continuation.
Note - I received an advance digital copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair review
“Good Vampire Romp”
(Hardback)
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a ebook copy for exchange for my honest opinion and views
I enjoyed this book like the first one the characters were interesting and fun, I do like a vampire story with well rounded characters that don't take themselves to seriously. Good among of spice story moves along at a good pace I wasn't bored and kept wanting to read more.
Definitely will recommend to my library fantasy reading good a solid 4 star read for me.
