That was beautiful! I enjoyed the poetry, some very beautiful lines! Particularly liked the Silver birch lullaby at the end. The illustrations steal the show, though. Absolutely gorgeous!

What a gem of a book! I bought a copy for a friend but loved it so much when I began to read it that I had to order one for myself as I know I will go back to it again and again. The poems are so evocative and really capture the essence of the natural world and the illustrations take my breath away. As advised the spells need to be spoken aloud as they come alive when heard. A book that I I know I will treasure.

Although this book might be marketed as a children's book I defy anyone who loves poetry and nature not to fall in love with this beautiful book. Each page is beautifully illustrated and the poems, whilst simple, will fill your mind with images of your own invention. I was unaware of the The Lost Words until after I read The Lost Spells and I would say the size of the former is great for younger children but the latter is much better for everyone else. The illustrations might be smaller but it will fit on any book shelf. My advice is buy it for your nearest and dearest and make sure you get a copy for yourself. Just don't gorge on it like a box of chocolates or you will be full of regret when you reach the last page. Instead take your time to appreciate every beautiful painting, read the poems to yourself, read them to your family and above all make the pleasure last. You will be glad you did!

I read the poems - spells! - aloud (as advised) and I can’t even tell you how much joy they brought!!! Gorgeous gorgeous. Excuse the pun, but these are spellbindingly delicious. I will read again and again and again.

I can't praise this book enough. From the beautiful embellished cover, through the wonderful paintings and the magical words, everything about it is so special. It really is such fun to read aloud and has a wonderful flow. All books should be as good as this and every home should have one.
