Very few books leave a lasting impression for me these days, especially not in any meaningful or interesting way. Yet, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about The Loser for a couple of weeks now. I initially chose it after seeing it was recommended by the late David Berman, and wasn’t disappointed. It’s a fascinating novel, and even more rewarding to read about after you’ve finished it. I particularly recommend the essay published on The Brooklyn Rail by Douglas Glover.
