Reviews: The Kingmaker (1)
“A sexy romp for the naughty eco-warrior”
(Paperback)
by Lisa
There’s no other way to say this. Kingmaker is a scandalous and rude romp on the front lines of the fight for human rights and to save the planet. A fun, sexy read for the summer that you won’t be able to put down. The romance plays out in a scintillating, if predictable, way. It is not for the feint of heart! I wouldn’t say it’s the *spiciest* on the market, but it’s definitely for the bolder and more direct among us. A raunchy, environmental star-crossed lovers if you will. Having a plot swirling around big issues like social equality and climate change was a fresh and unique twist, definitely a romance for this generation. The plot takes you all over the world and covers lots of different political issues over several decades. It’s really unique in the way it moves through the lives of the characters. Though the romance follows a predictable pattern, the ending will absolutely blindside you. An exciting twist that’s going to have you reaching for the sequel. I, personally, had to give it the three stars because it just wasn’t my style. I was (admittedly naively) looking for a little more plot and a little less SPICE. The vulgar language just wasn’t to my taste. I absolutely loved the idea of a Romeo and Juliet scenario between an oil barons son and an indigenous woman fighting for her native land, but the raunchy romance, for me, took away from the deeper points of the plot. Whatever my preferences, I can’t deny that this is a perfect girls trip summer read. Fans of Lauren Asher will love! Thank you to Source Books and Bloom Books for giving me this free copy in exchange for an honest review. It was a RIDE.
