Robert Peston uses his experience as a journalist to craft a realistic plot about the power of AI. The book is well-written and raises thought-provoking issues such as the future of democracy. Another outing for Journalists Gil and Jess, even though their relationship has broken down and Gil has moved out. When the PM suddenly collapses on their podcast, and then dies, they need to find out why. A good journey into the dangers of AI and what you can and can't believe. Corruption was rife and it makes you think if government is really like that. A great thriller with good characters and a fast moving story

I was invited to give an honest review of Robert Peston’s third book, and am grateful to have been able to read it. What an incredible ride it’s been! As per his previous books, I was totally gripped and I could have read this even if it was a much longer book. Peston warns us not to take democracy for granted, and that our way of life is more at risk than at any time since the 1930s. Heed his warning. Loved the characters Gil and his partner Jess who run a paper called The Financial Chronicle and a podcast. When Gil and Jess start to challenge AI and role on the wider society and when after interviewing the Prime Minister Stella Barnsbury for their podcast and collapses and dies and Gil & Jess are put into quarantine. They investigate the death and it appears a tech giant is involved. Lots of twists and suspense and you are left wondering if they will survive and makes you wonder what AI is capable of. Would highly recommend for a riveting read. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher.

This is the 3rd book in the Gil Peck series, and like the previous book in the series, it is a brilliant story. Gil Peck and his partner Jess are successful with their podcast; they are well known for telling truthful stories and getting to the nitty-gritty of things. The current Prime Minister, Stella Barnsbury, agrees to an interview with them; they are old friends, and all are comfortable with this. During the interview, the PM takes ill, and then 48 hours later, she dies. The author has taken a tech approach with this story, one that involves the use of AI and self-governing systems that can learn. This is very relevant in the world at present, so it makes for interesting reading for those, like myself, who are suspicious of us becoming more and more reliant on tech for everyday things. With the news of the PM's death, the investigations that follow, the next acting PM and then a whole load of conspiracy, secrets, greed, murder, and so much more, the author creates a story that is full of action throughout. The thing that makes this book so good is the author himself; he writes what he knows about as far as politics and journalism are concerned. Then he adds the fiction to create a fabulously addictive read that feels plausible, especially in the current climate. This is an addictive political thriller that is fast-paced, twisted and very, very readable. It is one I would definitely recommend.
