Reviews: The Interview (20)
“Tense, action packed thriller from Chris Ewan”
(Hardback)
Before reading this new book from Chris Ewan make sure you take a deep breath as there are passages of this book that you go through so fast you will forget to breathe. The pace of writing is fast, but not relentlessly so, the twists and turns of the plot come upon you and draw you up short.
Of the plot I won't comment as its pointless to regurgitate something that others are going to read and secondly so there won't be any spoilers. Suffice to say the whole story takes place across one day and largely in the same space and it is this claustrophobic intensity which is a great strength of the book. The small cast of characters have plenty of surprises and the way the author conveys their innermost thoughts is both convincing and compelling.
A pacy thriller that is to be recommended to all, but don't read it prior to an interview and certainly not on a plane!!
5 Stars *****
“A brilliant read”
(Hardback)
When you pick up a novel by C.M. Ewan you know you are in for a frenetic read! The pace in unrelenting and it is fantastically enjoyable.
It's late afternoon on a Friday in central London. Kate Harding is rushing to an interview for what she thinks is her dream job. Joel White is an interviewer with some very special skills. As the, rather odd, interview commences and the office empties of staff, Kate begins to feels that something is really not right. To say much more about the plot would create spoilers; suffice to say Joel wants some information and nothing will stop him trying to obtain it.
The plot is clever, the action is really rapid, perfectly suiting the story-line. The characters are well created and the atmosphere is spine tingling.
The Interview is a real roller coaster.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Pan MacMillan for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
“A page turning thrill ride.”
(Hardback)
I'm a fan of this author so was excited to read this in advance of publication. I read it in one sitting, barely looking up, it is a genuinely addictive and beautifully done thriller that defies all attempts to put it down until you know how it all ends up.
An interview that turns into a deadly trap that turns into a cat and mouse chase keeps you involved throughout and it never comprises on character or plot in order to offer the thrills, spills, twists and turns.
A superb thriller. Highly Recommended.
“Gripping and exciting”
(Hardback)
Who'd have thought it possible to weave a complex and thrilling story around the premise of a simple job interview? That's exactly what has been done here. I loved this book as the story was so different and incorporated mystery, thriller and murder in one neat little package. Highly recommend this book and can't wait to read more by this author.
“Gripping read”
(Paperback)
It is late Friday afternoon when Kate goes for an interview for a job. She thinks she will a good fit & she wants to do well. The building is ultra modern & when she is shown into the area of Edge Communications she is impressed with all the extra things that are provided for the employees. Everything is open plan although there is a glass cube & it is where her interview is to take place. Joel, the good looking man interviewing her seems to have an odd interview technique. He explains that his job is to find the answers behind the answers. She is left alone to fill in the psychometric questionnaire. The questions seem intrusive. She starts to feel uncomfortable & this soon turns to fear as she finds she can't get out & there seems to be no-one around.
This was a real page turner. I really admired Kate's determination as she changed from the somewhat introverted quiet character to the strong determined woman who is going to survive. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.
