The Innocent is the opening book in a brand-new series by David Baldacci about Will Robie and was first published in 2012. This is a breath-taking rollercoaster of an introduction to Will Robie.
Will Robie is an American Killer, a USA sanctioned assassin who travels the world doing wet work as and when ordered by his shadowy American agency. Sometimes the US government sanction some of his work for foreign powers who are classed as ‘friendly’. Robie is the best that America has got.
Robie picks up a flash drive which holds all the information he requires for his next sanctioned mission. He is never told the why only ever the who. He gets to an apartment in Washington DC not making any noise he enters and is about to pull the trigger on the target but stops. Even though the earwig is telling him to take the shot but then someone else takes out the target and Robie gets out of the apartment as quickly as he can.
As he escapes, he knows now that there will be a target on his back as he cannot understand why he was told to shoot that particular target. He is determined to find out what is going on and his agency is frantically trying to find out what happened. He is inserted into the investigation, and he is not sure who he can trust, especially in his own agency. Robie is the best at what he does, and the important thing is that he needs to survive.
This is a mind blowing introduction to a brand new character such a brilliant read.
