Series review. The handbook series accompanied the decade books that covered the production of classic doctor who. The handbooks covered each doctor (the eighth doctor was included in the seventh doctor book) of the original 26 year run (plus eighth's 1996 appearance.) The books all followed the same format. An introduction, followed by a selection of quotes from the actor who played the doctor. A detailed story guide to each story was then followed by a detailed look at the production of a single story from that doctor. The first and second doctor's had extra production material due to the discovery and use of documentation from their eras. A look at the mythology of the era is included as well. These books were very good and were a welcome addition to the who book collection. My one quibble is a personal one. The only thing I didn't like was the personal ratings of the stories and the authors thoughts on those stories. It's such a subjective thing that I felt those bits didn't need to be there. It's not a big enough quibble to spoil the books though so I still thoroughly enjoyed the series. Long out of print in their individual format the books have been edited down into two volumes and published independently by telos publishing, the company owned by writer David J. Howe. Sections are missing but if you don't have the original books these are well worth getting.
