Who could give this less than five stars! One of the most intelligent pieces of writing I have ever read.

Excellent writer and this is a superb example of her writing.

This is an intense book about relationships, which I found more difficult to read than I expected The subject matter is repetative, with long passages about the post WW2 communist party, and the same relationships tend to come round again The writing itself is obviously very good, and there are good descriptions of the characters Is this now a period piece ? These post war issues of relationships, single mothers and sexual intercourse may well have been very exciting to read about in times past - but pleasingly attitudes have moved on
