“Did not disappoint”
(Paperback)
It was not my first time reading Camus. Definitely not your typical storyline or storyteller so it might not be for everyone. Throughout the book you get to hear the main character (and only him) telling his life story, decisions and regrets to this other character (who doesn’t say a word to the reader). An existential book narrating the downfall of a man who choose to spend his time unwisely. I would recommend for a short read, I would not say it’s as good as the plague or the outsider, but everyone is different I suppose :)
“The most awful book I have ever experienced.”
(Paperback)
My partner recommended this novel to me, and low and behold I was extremely disappointed with it. The writer Albert Camus's story doesn't feel like it is well structured and the storyline feels flat. I would highly recommend avoiding this book at all costs. When reading the first few pages I found myself feeling bored and uninterested. Not much really happens in the book itself and it feels as if you are listening to a weak narrator whinging and complaining about things that are easily fixable. For this I would rate it 0.5 out of five stars. This is not what I would call a classic book in fact it is the opposite.
