This will blow your mind! If you love anything different like the Annihilation trilogy you will love this. Finding out God actually exists and being shrunk down to smaller than an ant, it is a bonkers concept but it works so well and takes you in a remarkable journey through the eyes of those effected and hinting at what is to come. This is the first in a new trilogy from an author with an amazingly crazy imagination that will take you on the wildest ride you will ever take through a book.

A novel I lived and experienced, a cautionary cinematic tale and a sensory delight.From the opening pages, this novel is truly outstanding, but it gets even better as the two timelines start to intersect and there are some grin-inducing twists and reveals. Beautifully written, inventive moreish - and something I can easily recommend to a wide audience.

I actually really enjoyed this book! I loved the concept of the story and made for such fun. The cover is beautiful and the attention to detail is exquisite. Even the drawings in the book are stunning. You're a very talented artist, Mikey. Such nice visuals! The book is written well and flows easily. The descriptions are good although the scale of the shrinking has a me a smidge confused. It didn't take away from the overall experience with the writing and visuals. The setting is good. Modern day with real settings in England. This ramps up the dystopian vibes once everything occurs. The characters are good. They all fit in pretty well. I liked Giles, his story is good and I like how it flowed. I wasn't too keen on Richard. He had a Messiah complex for sure! I really recommend this and I am looking forward to the next installment!!

I thought this book was a fascinating blend of art and science fiction, offering a unique exploration of an alternative reality. Please’s storytelling is both quirky and thought-provoking, making complex ideas about the earth and its potential expansion accessible and intriguing. While the abstract concepts are unique and original the book’s striking visuals and creative approach also make it an enjoyable and captivating read for fans of speculative fiction.

The Expanded Earth is a fantastic and evocative idea for a novel, and excellently explores the idea of a ‘Microcalypse’, a new flavour of extinction-threatening disaster I didn’t even think to worry about! If like me, the idea of all humans shrinking to a tenth of their current height leaves you with many questions, then never fear! The Great Descent is incredibly well thought out and explores the many ramifications of such a disaster. With a very punchy opening tinged with a little horror and bleak humour, this book sets its stall early for what to expect. The greatest success of this novel in my opinion is how well this new world was brought to life. The writing is incredibly evocative and captures the imagination, particularly the opening segments on a campsite with the newly diminished humans struggling through the long grass, and eyeing the local wildlife with a newfound trepidation. Each chapter is concluded with a beautiful linocut illustration that keeps reminding you of the new scale of the world our protagonists are trying to navigate. The story made me burst out laughing at several points with the darkness and absurdity of it all - it’s not a ‘funny’ book that goes for cheap jokes, but I found myself caught off guard at times. The exposition was really well managed in The Expanded Earth, with the multiple storylines unfolding at once leaving you to piece the wider plot together. The ‘elsewhere’ chapters scattered throughout were a wonderful glimpse into how the Microcaplyse is panning out around the world, and provides some great clues to working out what’s going on. Not all threads necessarily have a conclusion, though as the start of a planned trilogy I imagine several of these plotlines will be continued in future books.
